Media Mediation

Media Server Gateway Control

The Media Server Gateway Control acts as a translation unit between disparate networks (SIP and Legacy). CIPHER manages a pool of Media Servers and the control function orchestrates the protocol mediation with the designated Media Server. This capability allows CIPHER to be a customized Converged Services Gateway, enabling CIPHER to seamlessly connect calls to/from the SIP and Legacy networks.

Media Gateway Controller

The Media Gateway Controller provides the call control and signaling functionality in the Media Gateway. The orchestration of the SIP and Legacy protocols in the Media Gateway does not entirely bridge the two services. While the protocols establish a call session, media must flow between the caller and call recipient for an effective communication. Because the IP network media is based on RTP and the legacy network media is based on TDM, there is a gap between the two networks.

CIPHER provides this critical media gateway control function to bridge the legacy and SIP media formats by controlling the media gateways. For example, the legacy Interactive Voice Response (IVR) systems, which are
used to provide many prompt and collect services, have reached the end of their life and are being replaced by the more powerful function-rich Media Servers. CIPHER, with its
media gateway control function, provides a smooth migration path from these IVR-based services to the Media Service based services.
